Isothermal, Kinetic and Thermodynamic Studies of the Adsorption of Erythrosine Dye onto Activated Carbon from Periwinkle Shell

Isothermal, kinetic and thermodynamic studies of the adsorption of erythrosine dye onto activated carbon from Periwinkle shell was carried out. The Periwinkle shell were washed, dried, carbonized at 400oC, crushed, sieved, chemically activated at 800oC, cooled, washed and dried at 110oC. Variable influencing factors, such as contact time, temperature and concentration were studied through single-factor experiment, while other factors are kept constant (at 30min, 30oC and 50mg/L) in each adsorption experiment. From the adsorption isotherms, the correlation coefficient for Redlich-Peterson is closer to unity than others used in the adsorption. The adsorption kinetic followed pseudo-second order reaction, while the thermodynamic parameters, (∆H) = 13.49KJ/mol, (∆S) = 43.48J/mol.K and (∆G) = 0.4, 0.06, -0.15, -0.27, -0.54, -7.30KJ/mol. These results obtained show that activated carbon from Periwinkle shell will be a good low-cost adsorbent for the removal of erythrosine from aqueous solution.

Friction Stir Welding of Similar Metals by Taguchi Optimization Technique -A Review

In order to meet the global competition and the survival of products in the market a new way of thinking is necessary to change and improve the existing technology and to develop products at economical price. This paper discusses use taguchi experiment design technique for maximizing tensile strength of friction stir welding AA6061 and AA6061. In friction stir welding, the joints are formed in the solid state by utilizing the heat generated by friction. The objectives of this study are obtaining friction weld element of aluminium 6061 to aluminium 6061 and optimising the friction stir welding parameters in order to establish the weld quality. Effect of tensile strength of friction stir welding process parameter (Rotational speed, travel speed, axial force and tilt angle) is evaluated and optimum welding condition for maximum tensile strength is determined.

Experimental Investigations on Tribiological Properties of 6061-T6 Al Alloy by Via Friction Stir Processing

Microstructure and tribological properties of Al-TiB2 nano surface composite fabricated by Friction Stir Processing (FSP) were evaluated. To vary the percentage of TiB2 three different slot thickness viz. 1mm, 1.5 mm and 2mm were considered. Microstructural evaluations showed a nearly uniform distribution of TiB2 in the aluminium matrix after FSP with the addition of composite powder. Microhardness test results shoes FSW of Al6061-T6 alloy with 2mm groove width has more hardness. tribological properties were evaluated at two different sliding velocities 0.314m/s and 0.48m/s and results shows that at lower loads there is no much difference in wear rate of surface composite made with different slot sizes but with increase in load and sliding velocity wear rate was increased , however, larger slot Al6061-TiB2 Surface composites show better wear resistance.

Optimization of Material Removal Rate of WEDM Process on Mild Steel Using Molybdenum Wire

For any manufacturing process and, particularly, in process related to WEDM the correct selection of process parameters is one of the most important aspects to be taken into consideration. WEDM is capable of machining geometrically complex shapes or hard material components, such as composites, carbides, heat treated tool steels, super alloys, ceramics and heat resistant steels etc. These hard material components are widely used in die and mold making industries, aerospace, aeronautics and nuclear industries.
This study discusses the influence of process parameters like current, Pulse on time, Pulse off Time and Voltage on the performance parameters such as material removal rate. The experiment has been conducted on Mild Steel work piece using brass wire, because Mild Steel has various industrial applications in manufacturing of frame of motorcycles, dies, automobile chassis, base of boilers and cook wares etc. The experimental layout is based on Taguchi L16 orthogonal array. Further, the analysis of variance [ANOVA] is used to analyze the results obtained from Taguchi method. The analysis of results obtained for material removal rate indicate that current and pulse on time has the highest impact on material removal rate. As the current and pulse on time increases, the material removal rate also increases. Pulse off time and voltage has no significant effect on material removal rate.

The Challenges of e-Tailing in Employment Creation: Empirical Evidence from Nigeria

As more and more manufacturers and retailers turn to e-tailing to increase profits and capture new customers, the emphasis on online shopping means more opportunities for web designer jobs and developer jobs, not to mention an increase in the number of marketing jobs and content roles. This paper investigates the retail sector contribution and strategies for job creation. The research is based on a wide and broad literature review of the latest trends in the Nigeria retail industry, followed and supplemented by quantitative research of the key retailers in the country. The work, among others things identifies the drivers of change and related factors that have a bearing and influence on employment creation based on the emerging opportunities and threats (e.g. Technology). The study also evaluates the effect of e-retailing on job creation in Nigeria and as well investigates the challenges for managing e-tailing in a developing economy. To achieve the spelt objectives, the study utilizes survey design; and data was collected though a self-administered questionnaire from a number of 302 respondents who were retailers in three selected open markets in Ibadan Metropolis, Oyo State Nigeria. Statistical technique software SPSS was employed to aid the data analysis. Having analyzed the data, the study found out that e-tailing has brought about changes in the ways people buys and this affects many traditional retail outlets. It was also discovered that e-tailing is still ineffective in Nigeria economy. The work among other things, recommends that brick and mortal retailers should strengthen their operations in order to continue being in business. The work in addition to that also advised that Nigeria manufacturers and retailers should go electronic so as to face the digital rivals created by e-tailers.

Risk Assessment Model of College Students' Entrepreneurship based on Analytic Hierarchy Process

This paper takes the students' entrepreneurial projects as the research object, and uses the analytic hierarchy process to refine the indicators of the risk assessment model. The first order indicators were risk management, capability risk, market risk, resource risk. Each first-order index has its three to four second- Index. Through the study, we find that the two indexes of management risk and market risk have a very important impact on the risk assessment of college students' venture projects. The risk of risk management is 0.528, the risk is 0.176, the market risk is 0.148, and the resource risk is 0.148.This paper intends to establish a risk assessment model to help college students to evaluate the venture project betters, to avoid the risk of entrepreneurship, choose more suitable projects and help students start a more mature and stable situation.

Interconnected Simultaneous Tuning of Power System Stabilizers in a Multi machine Power System

This paper presents a new method based on the optimization technique for the interconnected simultaneous tuning of the parameters of all the power system stabilizers in multimachine power system. For tuning the parameters of PSS, non-linear optimization technique is used. In this non-linear optimization, the objective function is the maximization of damping ratio of the critical modes of rotor oscillations. The time domain simulation results of multi machine power system validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. In this paper, the 10 machine 39bus New England system is used as the test system.
